Lodging

Lecturers will be housed in the Gran Estanconfor Itaim ApartHotel in the Itaim neighborhood. The single-room reservations made by LASCON include free breakfast, wifi, laundry tokens and one garage parking space per room. Extra expenses, e.g. fridge items, washing powder, phone calls or meals other than breakfast, will be paid separately by each guest.

All students who do not live in São Paulo or who have not booked accommodation on their own will be lodged in the Imagina Hostel in the Paulista Avenue area. We have booked shared rooms (all-male or all-female) for these students from January 7 (check-in from 2pm) to February 3 (check-out before 12pm). The reservation includes breakfast and bed linen, but not bath towels. Each bath towel can be rented by 10 reals for the entire period of stay. Regarding laundry, the hostel recommends that students use the self-service laundry located at the Shopping Center 3 close to the hostel. It charges approximately 30 reals per basket of clothes. Rooms will be shared only among LASCON students.

LASCON will provide free transportation (by car or bus) for lecturers/students between the ApartHotel/hostel and the school venue at the University of Sao Paulo for the duration of the school, except on Sundays. Departure times from the hotel/hostel in the morning and from the university in the evening will be announced on January 8.

LASCON will not provide transportation for the students on the arrival (January 7) and departure (February 3) days from/to students entry/exit point in Sao Paulo to/from the hostel. This means that students will have to get to the hostel on the arrival day and to the airport/bus station on the departure day by themselves. The hostel is located a short walk away from two subway (metro) stations: Paulista, on line 4 (yellow), and Consolação, on line 2 (green). Please check the Sao Paulo subway map to plan your journey.

Instructions on how to get from the São Paulo International Airport – Guarulhos (GRU) Airport to Paulista station on the yellow line via public (cheapest way) transportation are given below.

From Guarulhos (GRU) airport, take the free shuttle bus to the Airport Station (“Estação Aeroporto”). The shuttle bus leaves every 15 min and stops at terminals 1, 2 and 3, and at the “Estação Aeroporto”. At “Estação Aeroporto”, buy an Airport Express (“Expresso Aeroporto”) ticket (“bilhete”). The ticket price is 5 reals. The “Expresso Aeroporto” train leaves every hour, from 5 am to midnight, and stops at stations “CECAP-Guarulhos”, “Brás”, “Luz”, and “Barra Funda”. To go to Paulista station, the best option is to get off at Luz station and take the subway (“metrô”) Line 4 (yellow) to Paulista station (between Luz and Paulista subway stations there are 3 stations: “São Bento”, “República” and “Higienópolis-Mackenzie”. The transfer from the train to the subway at Luz station is free.

A more expensive way to get from the airport to Paulista Avenue is to take a bus from the company Airport Bus Service. This company operates lines connecting GRU to four different places in São Paulo: Paulista Avenue (via “República” square), Congonhas Airport (another São Paulo airport), “Tietê” Bus Station (São Paulo’s main bus station), and “Barra Funda” Bus Station (another bus station). The buses depart from Terminal 2 and you can buy a ticket from the company’s counter located at the exit of the arrivals area. The cost of the ticket in December 2023 was 43.90 reals.
