18 June 2025:
Master’s student Pedro Ribeiro Pinheiro gave an oral presentation at the virtual NEST Conference 2025. The title of the presented work was Towards an empirically based model of the prefrontal cortex using AdEx neurons and NEST.
Rafael Gigante defended his TCC
16 June 2025:
The undergraduate research student Rafael Fernando Gigante defended his final graduation project (TCC) in Computational Physics at USP/São Carlos. The project, entitled “Thalamo-cortical circuit model to simulate deep brain stimulation in Parkinson’s disease”, was approved, and the student is now qualified to complete his degree and proceed to graduate studies.
Article on spatially extended neuronal network models published
17 April 2025:
An article based on the PhD research of Cecília Romaro (defended in 2020) was published in Neural Computation. It extends a scaling approach for spiking neural networks to spatially extended networks, introducing a scheme to avoid boundary effects.
Article on criticality in hierarchical modular networks published
16 April 2025:
An article based on the postdoctoral research of Dr. Flavio Rusch, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Osame Kinouchi, was published in Communications Physics. The study advances investigations into critical behavior in neuronal network models.
Thiago Bezerra presents at EMBO workshop in Italy
16 April 2025:
PhD student Thiago Ohno Bezerra delivered an oral presentation at the EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organization) Workshop Astrocytes: From Molecules to Systems, held in Venice, Italy.
Thiago Bezerra begins research internship in Finland
1 March 2025:
PhD student Thiago Ohno Bezerra began a one-year research internship abroad, funded by a FAPESP BEPE fellowship. The internship is being conducted at the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Marja-Leena Linne at Tampere University, in Tampere, Finland.
First SisNe article on astrocytes published in PLoS Computational Biology
16 December 2024:
An article stemming from the PhD research of Thiago Ohno Bezerra was published in PLoS Computational Biology. It introduces two computational models of astrocytes—one detailed and one simplified—to investigate how these cells respond to two fundamental neurotransmitters: glutamate and dopamine.
Flavio Rusch concludes postdoctoral fellowship
30 November 2024:
Dr. Flavio Roberto Rusch concluded his postdoctoral fellowship at SisNe, supported by a FAPESP fellowship associated with the CEPID NeuroMat. We wish Dr. Rusch success in his future professional endeavors.
